Re-Assessing the Measurement of Fogwater Inputs to a Tropical Ecosystem

چکیده
For several years the hydrological importance of the fogand cloudwater deposition to ecosystems in the tropics has been of great interest. In earlier studies carried out in the humid tropics the amount of deposited cloudwater was estimated by indirect methods based on the physical characteristics of the utilized cloudwater collector (1, 2) or on the comparison of the amounts of net and gross precipitation for events with and without fog. The basic equation of this approach, which is also refered as ’water mass balance approach’ is

Fogwater deposition modeling for terrestrial ecosystems: A review of developments and measurements
Recent progress in modeling fogwater (and low cloud water) deposition over terrestrial ecosystems during fogwater droplet interception by vegetative surfaces is reviewed. Several types of models and parameterizations for fogwater deposition are discussed with comparing assumptions, input parameter requirements, and modeled processes. The relationships among deposition velocity of fogwater (Vd) ...
متن کاملIon fluxes from fog and rain to an agricultural and a forest ecosystem in Europe
The deposition fluxes of inorganic compounds dissolved in fog and rain were quantified for two different ecosystems in Europe. The fogwater deposition fluxes were measured by employing the eddy covariance method. The site in Switzerland that lies within an agricultural area surrounded by the Jura mountains and theAlps is often exposed to radiation fog. At the Germanmountain forest ecosystem, on...
متن کاملThe globalization of N deposition: ecosystem consequences in tropical environments
Human activities have more than doubled the inputs of nitrogen (N) into terrestrial systems globally. The sources and distribution of anthropogenic N, including N fertilization and N fixed during fossil fuel combustion, are rapidly shifting from the temperate zone to a more global distribution. The consequences of anthropogenic N deposition for ecosystem processes and N losses have been studied...
متن کاملIsotopic evidence for large gaseous nitrogen losses from tropical rainforests.
The nitrogen isotopic composition (15N/14N) of forested ecosystems varies systematically worldwide. In tropical forests, which are elevated in 15N relative to temperate biomes, a decrease in ecosystem 15N/14N with increasing rainfall has been reported. This trend is seen in a set of well characterized Hawaiian rainforests, across which we have measured the 15N/14N of inputs and hydrologic losse...

Skid trails are the main routes for wood extraction and also the main source of runoff and sediment production in Forests. This research was conducted in Kuhmiyan forest of Golestan Province to determine infiltration, compaction, strength (resistance to penetration) and moisture content in three treatment including control (in the forest), wheel ruts and middle of skid trail were measured in th...
